What is a setup key?

A setup key is the secret used by an authenticator to generate time-based one-time passwords (TOTP). Enter the key supplied by the service where you are enabling two-factor authentication.

Is my key sent anywhere?

The authenticator generates codes in your browser. Your setup key is processed locally by the page and is not sent to the website server to generate the code.

Why does my code not work?

Check that the setup key was copied correctly and that your device clock is accurate. Confirm that the service uses the expected number of digits, time period, and algorithm.

What does Save in this browser do?

When enabled, the setup key and account name are stored in this browser on this device. Do not enable this on a shared device. Clearing browser data removes saved values.

What does Check Account Status check?

It attempts to assess publicly available profile information. Social platforms may require login, block automated requests, or limit access, so Unable to verify does not necessarily mean an account is invalid.
